37% of Somalis have received international remittances over the last year. More than half of international remittances recipients receive more than US$100 per month. To receive money internationally, Hawala is still the most widely used method; however, remittances companies are increasingly partnering with Mobile Network Operators to capitalize on the best that each service has to offer. Currently, 76% receive money from abroad through a Hawala Money Transfer Operator transfer, while 25% receive money directly on their mobile money account. The United States is the most frequent origin of international transfers, followed by the UK, Sweden and Saudi Arabia.
